Call them condiment holders, ramekins, sidebar dishes or just plain handy.
Whatever the name, I make them in several shapes because they are handy and fun to use. Square, rectangle and oval styles are especially popular because they can be used on the table with soy sauce, vinegar, chili sauce or in the kitchen as little prep dishes. In the office they are can hold paper clips, rubber bands and the like. On a night stand, the same petite vessels are great for rings and earrings.
Every piece is formed by hand - mine! - and glazed individually, with subtle variations creating unique qualities within a family of pieces. In person, the colors are richer than the photos below suggest since the photos were taken outdoors as the sun was setting.
Many of these square and oval condiment holders were selected by a local health care consulting firm to give to clients as part of a Chinese New Year celebration. Similar pieces sell regularly at local stores -- and to my studio colleagues because they are, well, handy.
Size information: - Squares are 3" x 3" - Ovals are 3" x 2.5" - Larger squares are 4" x 4" - Slim rectangle are 3.75" x 2.25" - Wide rectangles are 4.25" x 3"
