“The house of art...is large enough
to have room for many guests.”

One of the special opportunities of being based in the intimate city of San Francisco is that opportunities to collaborate with creative people who have strong views about design and presentation pop up with serendipitous frequency. I've been lucky to make bowls, mugs, vases and planters for owners of several special businesses in San Francisco.
- Bar Tartine - One of the terrific restaurants in the Mission, Bar Tartine - www.bartartine.com - regularly purchases some of my bowls, mugs and serving pieces for a menu that celebrates "diverse traditional flavors presented with a modern, post-regional generosity." Chefs Cortney Burns and Nick Balla know almost as much about ceramics as they do about the culinary arts and know what sizes, shapes and colors best showcase their creations.
- The Petaler - Floral designer Rebekah Northway has selected many of my large and small vases for her creative presentations. You can see her artistry on display at several outstanding restaurants in the Mission and Castro neighborhoods, corporate offices and private events. Collaborating with an artist who works with three-dimensional living materials is a provocative challenge -- how exciting to create art that presents art! You can follow Rebekah on Instagram and contact her at www.thepetalersf.com.
- The Potted Poppy - Some of my vases and planters now are part of the collection that Toni Anderson, owner of The Potted Poppy, has chosen for her new 'Living Gifts' service. She creates plant arrangements that make charming green gifts to be enjoyed for a long time as well as container gardens that are water wise and require minimal maintenance. Details are at www.thepottedpoppy.com.
- Spark Arts: A new spot in the Castro is Spart Arts, a maker space with classes, workshops and art installations. In collaboration with Aviva Kanoff, Creative Director, I have made planters for succulent gardens and occasionally have had small vases for sale. Spark Arts is at 4229 18th Street. For details about classes and hours, check out http://www.sparkarts.com.
